Vice President & Chief Scientist. Overall responsibility for technical direction and planning within the company. Includes responsibility for procurement and execution of government contracts; supervision of development and support of the company's existing and anticipated product lines in cryogenic instrumentation, fault current limiters, and radio frequency components; and coordination of development programs with marketing efforts.
Major accomplishments:
CPS Superconductor Corporation (4/88 - 11/90)
Vice President of Engineering. Supervising research group of eight professionals. Responsible for the development of commercial superconductor products including powders, continuous conductors, and three-dimensional shapes. Supervised successful effort to develop and commercialize the production of yttrium barium cuprate powder.
Ceramics Process Systems Corporation (11/85 - 4/88)
Senior Project Leader in research group. Supervised research group of 12 professionals. Responsible for projects studying advanced processes for the manufacture of thin film substrates and next-generation electronic packaging. Also supervised project studying the processing and fabrication of high temperature superconducting ceramics.
General Electric Company (5/80 - 10/85)
Staff Scientist in Ceramics Branch at Corporate Research and Development Center. Studied powder processing and phase equilibria in beta alumina materials for potential battery applications. Optimized alumina arc tube materials for high pressure sodium lamps. Developed multiphase low-thermal expansion silicate materials for integrated circuit supports. Additional study in alumina-tungsten packaging materials, including microstructural and phase development during firing, metallization application techniques and microstructure, and organic components for tape-casting and screen-printing applications.

Ph.D. in Ceramics Section of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Thesis under Professor H.K. Bowen titled "Thermoelectric Power Measurements in Wustite". Additional work (in conjunction with Lincoln Laboratory) on the study and fabrication of high temperature ceramic-to-ceramic seals. Secondary specialization in general statistical mechanics. Study supported by NSF Graduate Fellowship.
Technische Universität Hannover (6/77 - 8/77)
Studied under Professor H. Schmalzreid. Work involved the study of impurity diffusion in magnetite as a function of composition through the use of radioactive tracer techniques. Study supported by the Electrochemical Society's F.M. Becket Fellowship Award.
University of Utah (9/72 - 6/76)
B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering. Bachelor's thesis under Professor R.S. Gordon titled "Creep of Pure and Impurity-Doped Magnesium Oxide." Additional study of creep of beta alumina and hot-pressing and grain growth in magnesium oxide and aluminum oxide. Study supported by the University of Utah Chemistry Department Scholarship.
